Governor directs CS to review Chakma-Hajong issue

Itagar, Feb 14: Aruchal Pradesh Governor J P Rajkhowa taking strong exception to the poor performance of the state’s legal team on Chakma-Hajong refugee issue has directed chief secretary and the state’s legal team to review and represent the entire matter once again.

Rajkhowa yesterday directed the chief secretary and the principal secretary Home to immediately hire country’s best lawyers to take up the matter in the Supreme Court, a Raj Bhawan communiqué informed here today.

The governor also expressed shocked as to why the previous state government had not hired a battery of eminent lawyers in the Chakma-Hajong case.

He reasoned that the state lost the case in SC because the state did not put earnest efforts.

The rights of the indigenous tribes of the state has to be protected as enshrined in the Constitution of India, Rajkhowa emphasised.

He has directed the chief secretary to pay persol attention to the Chakma Hajong imbroglio, the communiqué added.
