ITANAGAR: Arunachal Pradesh Governor Brig (Retd) Dr B D Mishra on Friday requested the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Bipin Rawat to help the State in sanctioning two additional Rifle Companies each for the two Arunachal Battalions in the army.
Mishra, who met General Rawat at New Delhi during the day urged him to facilitate the matter at the earliest to strengthen the home grown defenders.
Mishra also discussed with the General issues on security, border area development and recruitment of Arunachalee youths in the Indian Army, a Raj Bhawan communiqué informed here.
Mishra informed the CDS about the state government's proposal to construct 22 strategically important border roads and 72 foot suspension bridges in forwarding most border locations to facilitate patrolling of the troops besides, a new Advance Landing Ground (ALG) at Dirang (Zimthung) and development of an abandoned ALG at Anini (Alinye) for defence as well as civil operations.
He requested General Rawat to help the State government by expediting the approval process. The governor shared the details of his recent visit to Walong in Anjaw district where he celebrated Diwali with soldiers and further conveyed his appreciation for the Eastern Army Commander who, organised the interaction programme with the troops at Walong, the communiqué added.
