Humanitarian initiative by Lower Subansiri District Police

ITANAGAR: 'Ek Kadam- because we care', a community policing initiative, initiated by the Lower Subansiri District Police has been reaching out to the people of the district in various ways to provide basic needs.

The humanitarian initiative, which started on June 20, has been providing ration kits to various groups of people from daily wage earners, sanitation workers, and village heads of the adjoining places of the district headquarter, Ziro. Contributions towards child care institute and One Stop Centre (OSC) by providing shelter to destitute women, orphans, victims of crime against children etc are more to add under this initiative.

Superintendent of Police (SP), Ziro Harsh Indora said that in these difficult times, when the whole world is reeling under the COVID pandemic, the prime objective of the initiative is not only limited to help for COVID but is more of an ongoing mission for the society and district.

"Through these efforts, we wish to help the people and at the same time seek their support in eradicating social evils like 'drug menace," he said, adding that he wishes to engage more youths in other activities.

The initiative will also provide youths with career guidance and disengage them from any anti-social activity. This initiative would also encompass the welfare of police personnel, he added.

He informed that the initiative is being supported by Air Force Wives Welfare Association (AFWWA), CRPF, ITBP and various NGOs and corporate houses.

"Under the programme, we have also provided 8 oxygen concentrators to Gyati Taka General Hospital (GTGH), which have been deployed across the district," the SP said, also adding that the initiative signifies that policing is not just about creating deterrence but also about engagement, reformation and repatriation of people back to the society.

Among others, DIG (Western Range) Kime Aya, Deputy SP Tasi Darang and other Police Personnel from the district have been making regular efforts in providing basic amenities to the society.
