ICAR-Krishi Vigyan Kendra team conducts OFT on rice in Arunachal

ITANAGAR: Officials of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Krishi Vigyan Kendra (ICAR-KVK), Longding, on Sunday, monitored and evaluated an agricultural field at Ottongkhua village under the On Farm Trial (OFT) on the rice variety Ranjit Sub-1. A team led by ICAR-KVK Longding senior scientist in-charge and also head A Kirankumar Singh and supporting staffers thoroughly checked the performance of the rice variety Ranjit Sub-1 at Mankai Wangsu's field. The team found the performance of the rice variety in terms of growth and development of the plants to be satisfactory, Singh said. He said the yield-attributing parameters like the number of effective tillers, number of grains per panicle, and length of panicle were found to be satisfactory.

However, the damage by birds resulted in a decline in production by 10-15% and in some pockets. The team also found that the infection by blast was not of much severity, he added. Singh said that due to improper levelling of the field, the ripening of the grains was not uniform, but within the next 7-10 days, the whole field will be ready for harvesting. He said the team expected optimum yield from the field as the standing crop was found satisfactory in all aspects.
