Idu Mishmis celebrate Reh Festival

ROING: The Idu Mishmi commmunity of Lower Dibang Valley district came together in large numbers today to celebrate Reh Festival at Central Rekho, Roing.

The inaugural programme was graced by Padmashree and Sahitya Akademi awardee Mamang Dai, spokespersons of APWWS Gumri Ringu, Dipti Bengia, Jarjum Ete, Kani Nada Maling, MLA Mutchu Mithi, DC Mitali Namchoom and HoDs.

Mamang Dai, addressing the gathering, appreciated the inclusiveness of the festival and paid her respect to all the ancestors, mothers and elders of the community for the making the collective community celebration of festivals possible.

Saying that festivals bring out the role of women in preserving our culture, she lauded the Idu Mishmi community for entrusting the role of organising the festival to women this year, with the theme “ Empowered Women Empower Women”.

“All stories come from the fireplace and the mother, and we must share these stories and legends of the tribes,” she added.

“It is said that our tribal indegenous culture is being diluted, modified and lost, but in reality it is promoted and transmitted in subtle ways through the celebration of festivals,” said Dai.

She added that culture does not remain static, so the community has to be very careful of how we move, change and take it forward towards the future.

Gumri Ringu appreciated the strength and courage of the community in giving their women the opportunity to organize the festival. She added that this strength has been derived by education, which is the most important factor to take society forward.

The day saw the felicitation of Idu women achiever’s, presentation of Reh philosophy and colourful cultural programmes.
