BORDUMSA: "If becoming an MLA of Bordumsa-Diyun is considered as a factor for cancellation of Residential Proof Certificate (RPC) by the Government of Arunachal Pradesh, I am ready to leave the chair if it restores the privileges back to Chakma-Hajong and other affected communities," said Bordumsa-Diyun's Independent MLA Somlung Mossang.

Mossang was addressing the people of Chakma-Hajong and other communities at the Diyun General playground on Friday afternoon.

The general people, including the Chakma -Hajong, were protesting against the cancellation of the RPC by the State Government by means of a non-cooperation movement organized by the Chakma and Hajong Students' bodies across Diyun in Arunachal's Diyun in the Changlang district.

Responding adequately to the sentiments of the affected communities who are on a week-long agitation since December 23 last, the incumbent legislator reiterated that an MLA in his/her individual capacity cannot undo the decision taken by the State Government in a Cabinet session. "If you still hold me individually responsible for the act and if it can be restored on my stepping down, I am ready to quit", said the MLA, while suggesting that the students' bodies should work peacefully by liaising with the State Government and various students' organizations of Arunachal Pradesh.

"Being an elected representative of a constituency, I have my official limitations and have to refrain from abusing the ruling Government on social media, unlike few private individuals who appeared overnight and took to social media and created confusion among the people", said Mossang.

Unlike an individual, an elected MLA has a definite modus operandi and does the right thing in a meaningful platform in an appropriate time for a desirable outcome, he said.

Meanwhile, taking strong cognizance of slogans being shouted against the Chief Minister of the State, Pema Khandu, the MLA said that the decision of cancelling the RPC cannot be fixed upon the CM alone. Had this been so, the PRC to non-APST (Arunachal Pradesh Scheduled Tribe) could have been given following the declaration of the CM himself in the year 2018. Though he officially declared, yet the decision of the government is yet to materialize till date due to internal chaos which rocked the State in 2019, Mossang said.

Similarly, the legislator, while appreciating the sufferings of the communities, students and job seekers among the Chakma-Hajong community in particular due to dearth of the required documents, said that he would table the two memorandums received earlier to this effect before the State Government so that a favourable mechanism can be evolved.
