Income Tax Principal Chief Commissioner urged not to shift office to Dibrugarh

Itanagar: Itanagar-based Charted accountant Ramesh Chandra Roy, in a memorandum to Guwahati-based income tax Principal Chief Commissioner (PCC) recently, urged him to continue Itanagar jurisdiction ward range office at Tezpur without transferring it to Dibrugarh in Assam.
Pointing out that some vested interest groups are proposing and lobbying for shifting the above office to Dibrugarh, he said that Arunachal Pradesh within the present jurisdiction of Itanagar ward was under North Lakhimpur for long and people had to visit there even for minor works like filing of tax returns, obtaining exemption certificates etc. Recently, much to the convenience of State tax payers, the State IT department has decided for a separate ward for specified regions and even move the income tax officer's office location within Itanagar Capital Complex. This would certainly go a long way towards an increased level of compliance and awareness among the people of the State towards tax provisions.
A recent proposal for shifting of the Range Office jurisdiction to Dibrugarh would be in complete contrast with the interest of tax payers and professionals rendering tax-related services to the residents of the locality.
