Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh on Wednesday observed International Labour Day throughout the State despite inclement weather.

The main function was organized in the State capital by the All Arunachal Pradesh Workers Union (AAPWU) at Nyakum Lapang here, where a large number of workers participated.

All Arunachal Pradesh Public Transport Federation (AAPPTF) president Dobing Sonam and All Garku Abu Welfare Society (AGAWS) president Taba Taku attended the function. Addressing the function, Sonam said that the labour force is the biggest factor for all-round development. He exhorted the workers' community to work sincerely and shoulder the responsibility in nation building.

“There have been complains that a few workers do not carry their work efficiently and sincerely but always ask for an increase in salary. They should change their attitude as everybody’s support is required for the all-round development of our State,” Sonam added.

Referring to the memorandum submitted on the occasion, Sonam said that the rights and privileges of labourers and workers need to be addressed by the government.

He exuded hope that the new government would give natural justice, rights and privileges as per the demand of several labour organizations, including AAPWU.

Taku in his deliberations elaborated the need for the formation of labour unions and other organizations in the greater interest of the labour and the workers' community.

Reports of the celebration of the day also poured in from various parts of the State.
