ITANAGAR: An SUV Toyota Fortuner which was stolen six years back from the family of former Chief Minister of Bihar, Lalu Prasad Yadav, was seized by the Itanagar police from one Dangu Mama of Gohpur Tinali.

Capital Complex SP, Tumme Amo said that according to sources the SUV was stolen from the family on gunpoint. A case has been already registered U/S 392/397 IPC r/w 25 Arms Act in the year 2014 at Gurgaon, Haryana, he added.

SP also said that the investigating team had no idea about the vehicle belonging to former CM of Bihar and had seized the vehicle on receipt of inputs from sources from Itanagar last week.

He added that till Thursday, the capital police have seized a total of 26 SUV vehicles with an approximate value of nine crores thirty four lakh of rupees, which according to him is the biggest achievement ever by the Capital police.

Among the 26 vehicles, 22 is SUV Toyota Fortuner, 2 Compact SUV Hyundai Creta, and 2 compact SUV Maruti Brezza.

SP said that the accused of the case, Passang Tamang and Vicky Gurung were kept for three months in the Jollang Jail; and now they are on bail following a order of the High Court. He further said that the vehicles were seized by the lead provided by both the accused.

"Altogether 11 vehicles were seized by the information provided by Passang Tamang and three vehicles by Biki Gurung. The 11 vehicles were seized from the inputs provided by the people of the State and one was surrendered by an unknown person through Facebook," he added.

According to the casewise categorization, while 20 are registered as theft cases and one of robbery which according to the details was found to be stolen from former CM of Bihar, Lalu Prasad Yadav; the remaining five are yet to be traced.

Amo said that rest of the vehicles were either found abandoned in sector roads, car agency, few from the under construction building of one Kaya Tara at Jollang and the rest were from the possession of the two accused.

He said that six of the vehicle registration was done from the District Transport Office (DTO), capital complex and four were from Kurung Kumey district. The rest were all bearing fake registration, he added.

When questioned on any legal action on the suspicious indulgence of the DTO, SP said that the team of police is working on it and if found guilty the court will decide their punishment.

Most of the buyers claimed that they had bought the vehicles because of the low price. The burden of proof is for the buyers but we presume the buyers had bought the cars with intent.

"According to the law, those buyers can be booked under the IPC 411, which will cost them 3 years of imprisonment," he said while few of the case have been charge sheet.

The vehicles were seized from Doba Lamnio, Bamang Yakia, Michi Tamang, Nellam John, Tapak Natam, Tabe Marging,Techi Tiabang, Akhya Pordung, Bamang Taiggh, Toko Tam, Ravindra Tana, Nabam Takar, Taba Tader, Giogi Powak, Gollo Linto and from an under-construction building belonging to Kaya Tara.
