BORDUMSA: At a time when the Singpho community in 49th Bordumsa-Diyun constituency are in a dilemma centering round the multiple candidates for the upcoming Assembly election slated for early 2019, several Singpho leaders of 50th Miao Assembly constituency under the leadership of Zawkhong Singpho quit the saffron brigade here on Monday.
Tendering the joint resignation letter this morning to the Miao Mandal president, Singpho without rejecting the possibility of shifting allegiance to the Congress in the days to come, told The Sentinel that he would work for the greater cause of the people after forming a team of smart working people
“BJP workers from several villages, primarily the Singpho community, would also quit the BJP, rendering an irreparable jolt to the party base at the 50th Miao (ST) Assembly Constituency in Changlang district,” Singhpo said. Terming the reason as personal, Singpho who had earlier played a pivotal role in sorting out differences among the politically ambitious Singpho leaders here in Bordumsa, did not however decline the possibility of fighting the forthcoming Assembly election on a Congress tickets either in Miao or in Bordumsa.
Singpho’s move, who has also been the president of the Singpho Development Society, beside being an admired orator among the Singphos, might lead to a major reshuffling of political equation in Miao and Bordumsa.
The others office bearers and workers to quit the BJP includes Lusu Gam Singpho, Inthem Du Singpho, Umbon Nong Singpho (former GPM), Ingkhum La Singpho, Laring Singpho, Kamal Pait Singpho, Lunnem Singpho, Kochang Singpho and Roidoi Singpho.
Earlier last month, former Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh Gegong Apang had also quit the BJP and around 8 office bearers of various wings of BJP from Longding district also made an exit.
