Jolt to Congress, sitting MLA Markio Tado quits party

Itanagar: In a severe jolt to the Congress in Arunachal Pradesh, sitting MLA Markio Tado, representing Tali Assembly Constituency in Kra Daadi district, has resigned from the party on Monday and joined the Saffron brigade, a day after the Election Commission of India (ECI) declared parliamentary and assembly elections for the state to be held on April 11. With the development, the Congress in the State is left with only four legislators in the House of 60.

Addressing reporters at the Press Club here, Tado informed that informed that he had submitted his resignation to Arunachal Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president Takam Sanjoy and had already joined the BJP with 3,500 supporters.

Tado, who won from the constituency in the 2009 assembly elections in a Peoples’ Party of Arunachal (PPA) ticket, also won from the constituency during 2014 polls as a Congress nominee. He added that honouring the demands of the people of his constituency; he had decided not to contest this election but would extend his unconditional support along with his workers and supporters to Thaji Gichak Kiogi, an aspiring candidate from the BJP party.
