ITANAGAR: The Capital police have arrested Milli Tachak for allegedly raping his own 21-year-old domestic helper at home. The accused is the present Kamle District Students Union (KDSU) president.

Speaking to the reporters, Capital SP Rohit Rajbir Singh said that, according to the medical examination of the victim, sexual assault has been confirmed. He said the police are waiting for the confession and statements of the victim before the magistrate under Section 164. He said the medical reports confirm that there was sexual assault on the victim. And once the magisterial report is received, the police will take further action on the matter.

"The incident was on May 22, and the police received the information of rape from TRIHMS Hospital." The victim filed an FIR on the next day, and accordingly, a case under WPS case No. 50/2023 u/s 376/506 IPC has been registered," he said, adding that very soon the police will chargesheet the case.

He said the accused is presently under police custody and the interrogation process is ongoing. As of now, the victim is under observation and care. Moreover, there are no reports that the victim was sexually assaulted before by the accused. The victim is 21 years old, from Nyosa village in Longding district, and presently resides at Powerhouse colony, Nirjuli. According to the FIR, the accused forcefully sexually assaulted the victim at around 9.30 a.m. in his bedroom. The victim later complained about the matter to the accused wife; however, the wife threatened not to disclose the matter to anyone.

Meanwhile, the Arunachal Pradesh Women's Welfare Society (APWWS) has also condemned the rape. The women's society called on the police to expedite the investigation and not let him out without completion of the investigation. "Such heinous crimes need to be condemned and should never be tolerated. The society said that it would extend all possible assistance to the survivor of the rape. The Longding Branch of APWWS is in touch with the survivor," APWWS further added.
