Guwahati: The Deputy Commissioner of Itanagar Capital Region Komkar Dulom has issued an order restricting the distribution of High-Speed Diesel (HSD) and petrol to everyday consumers during the lockdown. The order restricts the distribution of HSD or petrol to vehicles that are granted an exemption during the lockdown period in the Itanagar Capital Region (ICR).

"HSD and petrol shall not be issued to normal consumers, except for medical emergencies and exempted offices," the order read. According to sources from the DC office, the order was necessitated after a huge crowd was seen thronging the few petrol pumps that are operating in the city during the lockdown. On Monday, most of the petrol pumps in Itanagar remained closed.

Amid the surge in Covid-19 positive cases, Arunachal Pradesh government on Sunday extended the total lockdown in Itanagar till August 3. Chief Secretay of the state, Naresh Kumar informed: "the lockdown is being extended in view of the prevailing Covid-19 situation and to contain the local transmission of the virus in the region."
