Man sentenced to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment in Pasighat

PASIGHAT: A special POCSO court sentenced a man to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs. 10, 000 for sexually assaulting his 10-year-old niece under section 6 of the Protection of Children against Sexual Offences Act. The accused was found guilty of committing aggravated penetrative sexual assault on the 10-year-old.

The FIR was lodged on July 27, 2021, at Mariyang Police Station by the father of the victim stating that the accused had sexually assaulted his daughter on July 2. The victim was staying at her grandparents’ house in Damro village during her school vacation when the incident happened.

According to the FIR, the accused came to the house of the grandparents during the daytime when the victim was sexually assaulted. The entire incident occurred when the victim was alone and her grandfather had gone to work with the grandmother to the field. The incident only came to light when the victim disclosed and narrated the whole story to her grandmother. Subsequently, a case under section 376 IPC R/W section 6 of the POCSO Act was registered against the accused.

Meanwhile, an amount of Rs 7.5 lakhs was provided to the victim as compensation under the Arunachal Pradesh Victim Compensation Scheme 2011.
