Masses’ Participation Boosts Plastic-Free Initiative in East Siang

Itanagar: The sustained plastic-free campaign initiated by East Siang Deputy Commissioner Dr Kinny Singh is now taking the shape of a mass movement in both urban areas and villages of the district.

The ongoing Swachhata Hi Seva campaign in the district under the aegis of the district administration has further given a big fillip towards the goal of plastic-free, clean and green East Siang district.

The DC has urged citizens and all stakeholders to join in the plastic free campaign to make it a sustainable movement and also appreciated the joint efforts of all stakeholders.

A mass social service was conducted on Wednesday at the scenic Komlighat river bank area along the mighty river Siang which was supervised by the public works department, an official release informed here on Thursday.

Mass cleanliness drives in iconic and tourist hotspots, highway zones, schools and Jawaharlal Nehru College, Raneghat, Pasighat market area, office premises, and residential areas have also been carried out.

There has already been a visible change in the district headquarter Pasighat after the ban on single use plastic carry bag by the DC earlier.

Further, awareness campaigns have also been organized in villages and the entire district.

To ensure that the collected wastes are not littered around, Pasighat Municipal Council (PMC) has been entrusted to single point collection for plastic waste through the district collection centre for urban areas and PHE for rural areas, the release added.
