Meeting on PMGSY-II Held in Itanagar, Arunachal Pradesh

ITANAGAR: The State Level Standing Committee (SLSC) meeting on District Rural Road Plan (DRRP) for PMGSY-II was held under the Chairmanship of Chief Secretary Naresh Kumar at his office chamber in the Civil Secretariat here on Friday.

The committee approved a total of 595.822 kms of road under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana-II (PMGSY-II) in the meeting.

PMGSY-II roads will cover 23 districts with a total length of 595.822 kms. The selection of routes was with the objective of identification of rural growth centers and other critical rural hubs and other rural places of importance (growth poles, rural markets, tourist places, education and health centers etc).

Kumar also reviewed in detail about the physical and financial achievement of the PMGSY-I. He told the agency to expedite their work so that there is last mile connectivity to the remotest village of the State of Arunachal Pradesh and people could actually benefit from the PMGSY roads.

In the meeting, Secretary RWD Kapa Kholie, Secretary Education Dr. Madhu Rani Teotia, Dani Sulu Secretary Sports and Youth Affairs, a representative from BRTF, Nodal Officer Superintendent Engineer NL Kamen and others were present in the meeting.

The Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) (IAST: Pradhān Mantrī Grām Saḍak Yōjanā) (Hindi: प्रधानमंत्री ग्राम सड़क योजना, English: Prime Minister's Rural Roads Scheme) is a nationwide plan in India to provide good all-weather road connectivity to unconnected villages. Of 178,000 (1.7 lakh) habitations with a population of above 500 in the plains and above 250 in the hilly areas planned to be connected by all-weather roads, 82% were already connected by December 2017 and work-in-progress on the remaining 47,000 habitations was on-track for completion by March 2019 (c. December 2017).
