ITANAGAR: Arunachal Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to preserving indigenous traditions while advancing its vision for development.

Speaking at the 55th Central Tamlã-Dü Festival at Khoraliang village in Lohit district on Saturday, he emphasized the importance of holistic growth in education, healthcare, tourism, horticulture, and agriculture sectors that serve as pillars of progress and self-reliance. Mein highlighted the government’s dedication to empowering youth, uplifting women, supporting the underprivileged, and strengthening the farming community, recognizing their crucial role in building a prosperous Arunachal Pradesh.

The festival, celebrated under the theme “Connecting to Brotherhood,” was a vibrant showcase of the Mishmi community’s rich cultural heritage, fostering unity and strengthening communal harmony.

As part of the state’s efforts to boost sports infrastructure, Mein stressed the need for every district to have a football stadium, ensuring equal opportunities for aspiring athletes. He specifically pointed out that Tezu should have its own stadium, emphasizing that such initiatives would nurture young sporting talent and enhance Arunachal’s standing in athletics and adventure sports.

In a move to document and preserve indigenous traditions, the deputy chief minister released two books ‘Kaman Lai Ling Yai’ by Sokhep Kri and ‘Kumtibaa’ by Kathesi Kri, both contributing to the linguistic and cultural heritage of the Mishmi community.

Additionally, he launched the CALSOM calendar for the Tezu block, further strengthening efforts to safeguard the region’s traditions. The festival also featured traditional performances, community gatherings, and sports events, celebrating the deep-rooted cultural identity of the Mishmi people.
