Month-long (SSG) Swachh Survekshan Gramin programme held in Kurung Kumey at Itanagar

Itanagar, July 30: The month-long Swachh Survekshan Gramin (SSG), a ranking exercise taken up by the Central Government to assess rural and urban areas for their levels of cleanliness, was launched in Kurung Kumey district.

While launching the exercise, Deputy Commissioner (in-charge) Nighee Bengia urged the stakeholders, particularly the administrative officers of various subdivisions and blocks, to work together and create awareness among all sections of the society about the importance of working together towards making their district cleaner and a better place to live in.

PHE&WS executive engineer Bamang Tadh highlighted the framework, objectives, parameters, and the goal of SSG-2018. He informed that it is the first ever rural sanitation survey in the country to rank the villages, districts and states. The ranking will be based on their performance attained on key quantitative and qualitative sanitation parameters, and survey of public places, he said. Kurung Kumey was declared an open defecation-free district in October last year, the executive engineer informed.

The survey will be conducted by an independent agency from August 1 to 31 next, during which the agency/team will collect citizens' feedback through direct interactions or group meetings, visit public places like schools, anganwadi centres, public health centres and market areas, and collect data from SBM (G). The best performing states, districts and villages will be awarded on October 2 this year.
