TEZPUR: The dead bodies of the two flying officers who had died in the helicopter crash in Arunachal Pradesh on Thursday were sent to their respective families. Their helicopter had crashed while they were on a routine flight to Tezpur in Assam.

A Cheetah helicopter belonging to the Indian Army had crashed near Bomdila in Arunachal Pradesh in the morning hours of Thursday. The search and rescue operations later led to the recovery of the dead bodies of the two pilots onboard the helicopter. The mortal remains of the falen soldiers were first taken to the army base in Tezpur where a formal event was carried out before sending the remains to the families.

“The mortal remains of Lt Col Reddy have been sent to his home town Yadadri (near Hyderabad), Telangana and Maj Jayanth to Madurai in Tamil Nadu in a special military plane,” mentioned defence public relations official Mahendra Rawat. “Obeisance was paid with full military honours at Tezpur to the mortal remains of Lt Col VVB Reddy and Maj Jayanth A of Army Aviation, who sacrificed their lives in the line of duty on March 16 while on an operational sortie in Arunachal Pradesh,” he added. The wreath-laying event was organised by the authorities on behalf of the grateful nation for their untiring services, mentioned the defence official.

The Indian Army has already launched an official enquiry to find the reason of the crash. The Cheetah helicopter carrying Lt Col VVB Reddy and Maj Jayanth A had crashed near the Mandala region in the West Kameng District of the state of Arunachal Pradesh on the morning of Thursday.

This was not the first time that helicopters belonging to the defence forces have crashed in the state of Arunachal Pradesh. Adverse weather conditions and treacherous terrain have often been mentioned as the reasons for these crashes.
