Namsai gets district library in Arunachal Pradesh

Itanagar: Much to the delight of the people of Namsai district in Arunachal Pradesh, a District Library has come up here with local MLA Zingnu Namchoom launching it on Tuesday amidst a huge gathering of government officers, staff, public leaders, NGOs, teachers, students and common people.

Namchoom and all other dignitaries offered floral tributes to the portrait of Dr S R Ranganathan, the father of library science in India.

Namchoom in his address said that Namsai District Library is one of the most beautiful and modern libraries in the state, an official release informed.

Recollecting his childhood days, he related his close association with the Namsai library and said it was his dream to have a well-maintained library to foster education to the poor people.

He exhorted the youth to inculcate much needed reading habits which enable them to create a knowledge-based society.

Namsai Deputy Commissioner R K Sharma, in his speech, said that youth and school children are the key users of the library and with the formal inauguration of the building a long pending demand of the citizens has been fulfilled.

He informed that the District Library has been constructed under matching grant of Raja Rammohan Roy Library Foundation, Kolkata and by the State Government.

Expressing his gratitude to Deputy Chief Minister and the local MLA for their constant support for escalating public library services in the district, the DC also applauded Director of Public Libraries J Borang for holding up development of library services in the district.

Considering the public demand, the DC announced that services of District Library will be offered to the public even on Sundays, the release added.
