Itanagar: With the 2019 Assembly polls knocking at the door, the people of Lekang, the home constituency of Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein, under the banner of ‘United People Movement of Lekang (UPMOL)’ resolved to not allow any political to campaign at the constituency until the ‘PRC issue’ was settled.
Claiming support of other organizations as well as the political parties, including ruling BJP and opposition Congress, the UPMOL maintained that the Namsai District Mahila Congress Committee (DMCC) president Naina Mili Moran reportedly gave her undertaking not to conduct any political campaign at Lekang till PRC is granted to those non-APSTs including Deoris, Mishings, Sonowal Kacharis residing in Lekang for years together.
The Lekang Block Congress president M Danggen has also signed a ‘declaration’ on PRC issue, endorsing the decision taken in the joint meeting held at Mahadevpur on September 30 last.
“All political parties have agreed to restrain from direct or indirect campaign in Lekang constituency and also by and large entire Lekang people until and unless the PRC issue is resolved,” added Ratan Chetia, president of UPMOL.
