NSCN (IM) rebel held by security forces
Itanagar: In another successful operation by security forces in Arunachal Pradesh, a cadre of the NSCN (IM) was apprehended from Khonsa in Tirap district on Thursday.
The Khonsa Battalion of the Assam Rifles, under the aegis of Dao Division of the Army, conducted a successful operation at Khonsa town in the wee hours on Thursday and apprehended the cadre identified as Along Wangnow, a self-styled sergeant of the outfit, Defence spokesman Col Chiranjit Konwer informed in a statement on Friday.
This is the fifth underground cadres being apprehended by security forces in Eastern Arunachal district in the past 72 hours.
Based on specific intelligence inputs about the presence of the rebel at Khonsa town who was trying to terrorize people and carry out extortion bids, the Khonsa Battalion of Assam Rifles swiftly launched an operation and apprehended the cadre with a pistol and live ammunition.
On interrogation, he admitted his allegiance to the NSCN (IM), the spokesman said adding, he was later handed over to police.
Security forces has been carrying out aggressive operations in South Arunachal Pradesh against insurgents and the operations have struck a blow to the extortion activities being carried out by the insurgents in the area, Col Konwer added.
