ITANAGAR: A Green Tea Accord was signed between the Nugong Banggo Kebang (NBK) executive members, PRI leaders and others at Panging in Siang district. Nugong Banggo (Karging Menyang) of Rebo-Perging circle comprises of eight villages in the district.

On October 16, the accord was signed to plant tea for own consumption. They signatories resolved not to buy tea from the market. They said the plantation of tea for their own consumption will save the hard-earned money of the people. They also resolved to promote and encourage other households of the eight villages to plant more tea plants for self-reliance and also for self-sustenance. The signatories also resolved to share ideas, thoughts and experience for exploring a multi-sectoral planning, participation and to generate awareness activities among the people of the Banggo for a healthy co-existence.

Onil Taki, who presented the NBK Green Tea Accord, spoke on the economic benefits and the historical origin of how tea started from China. Talem Jamoh, who was the resource person, suggested that Banggo start the plantation of tea. He said home-made tea is organic and good for health while tea manufactured in factories is diluted and has added chemicals for better taste, which may cause harm to the human body.
