ITANAGAR: The Nyishi Youth Welfare Association (NYWA) and Arunachal Indigenous Students' Union (AISU) jointly announced a 24-hour Capital Bandh on August 2 after the State government failed to address their long-pending demands.

Their demands are — Non-floating of NIT under GeM Portal, immediate repeal of Arunachal Pradesh District Based Enterprise and Professional (Incentive development and professional) Entrepreneurs Act 2015, annulment of Arunachal Pradesh Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act 2014, cancellation of three ST certificates illegally issued to Tibetan refugees, renaming of Indira Gandhi Park as Abotani Park, the introduction of a chapter about Arunachal Pradesh in NCERT syllabus.

Addressing a press conference, AISU president Techi Talik said that there is a need to repeal the District Based Enterprises and Professional (Promotion Development and Professional) Entrepreneurs Act 2015 to give equal opportunity to all contractors irrespective of their place of domicile to participate in any tenders.

He also demanded abolishment of the AP Unlawful Activities Prevention Act 2014 citing that the act is Draconian as it gives extraordinary power to law enforcers to book any protesting pressure group leader.

"The concerned State Health authority is violating the MDoNER order by advertising the NIT through different online modes other than the GeM Portal thereby depriving many eligible and genuine contractors," NYWA president Tai Talley lamented.

Talley also reminded the authorities concerned about their demands for the cancellation of ST certificates illegally issued to three Tibetan refugees.
