ITANAGAR: Arunachal Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein on Sunday strongly endorsed the "One Nation, One Election" initiative, calling it a transformative step toward efficient and uninterrupted governance.
Speaking at a workshop organised by the BJP's Namsai district unit on the subject, Mein highlighted the potential benefits of holding simultaneous elections for the lok sabha and state assemblies.
He said such a move would significantly reduce the burden on the administrative machinery, cut down election-related expenses, and help maintain governance continuity without frequent interruptions.
Calling upon party members to understand and support the vision, Mein said the initiative aligns with the broader objective of national integration and administrative efficiency.
Emphasising party discipline and unity, the deputy chief minister reminded BJP workers that the strength of the party lies not just in leadership, but in the integrity, dedication, and collective efforts of its members at every level. He reiterated the importance of staying true to the party's core principles and programmes for sustained success.
Turning his focus to grassroots governance, Mein urged party workers to begin preparations for the upcoming panchayat elections. He underscored the critical role of the Panchayati Raj system in strengthening democracy at the village level and stressed the importance of selecting strong, committed candidates to ensure that government welfare schemes and development programmes reach even the remotest corners of the state. The deputy chief minister also cautioned against internal factionalism within the party. He said that supporting officially nominated candidates is crucial, and any resentment following ticket denial sends a negative message.
He called for a united front and dedicated action for the growth and development of both the state and the party.
Lok Sabha MP Tapir Gao, while addressing the gathering, spoke on several pressing national and state issues, reaffirming the government's commitment to transparency, accountability, and the preservation of Arunachal Pradesh's cultural heritage.
On the National Herald case, Gao clarified that the ongoing Enforcement Directorate (ED) investigation is being monitored by the court and is not politically motivated. He informed attendees that the ED filed a charge sheet on April 15 under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) against Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi.
The case involves the alleged misappropriation of over Rs 2,000 crore worth of assets belonging to Associated Journals Ltd, which were reportedly transferred to Young Indian Pvt Ltd for just Rs 50 lakh.
Gao noted that the case predates the BJP's tenure and accused the Congress of attempting to politicise the matter to divert attention from corruption allegations.
He also raised concerns about the administration of Waqf Board properties, advocating for greater transparency and public accountability in the management of religious and charitable assets.
