ITANAGAR: Along with other legal services authorities, the second National Lok Adalat of the year was conducted by the Arunachal Pradesh State Legal Services Authority (APSLSA) under the aegis of NALSA on Saturday in various courts of the state organized by District Legal Services Authorities. The Lok Adalat were held at the District and Session Court Bomdila, Tezu, Aalo, and Yupia; the Additional District and Session Judge (ADSC) court at Basar; the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) courts at Daporijo, Roing, Pasighat, Changlang, Bomdila, Seppa, Ziro, Yupia, and Aalo; and the Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) courts at Yingkiong, Palin, Pangin, Khonsa, Longding, Tawang, Yupia, Hawai, and Anini.
A total of 23 benches were constituted to conduct the National Lok Adalat in the state, according to an official communiqué. Lok Adalat is a crucial alternative dispute resolution mechanism available to the common people. It is a forum where disputes and cases pending in court or at the pre-litigation stage are settled or compromised amicably. The matter is negotiated and settled without formal institutions. It is a speedy and cost-effective mechanism that could give immense relief to the parties (the litigants), where long-pending cases are settled in a speedy manner to lessen the burden of the courts.
National Lok Adalats are organized simultaneously in all districts and high courts on a pre-fixed date. In Lok Adalats, cases such as criminal compoundable cases, bank recovery cases, motor accident claims, matrimonial disputes, cheque bounce cases under the Negotiable Instrument Act, labour disputes, and other civil cases are taken up. Over 235 cases were disposed of out of the 2008 listed cases taken up, and an amount of Rs 61,28,784 was collected as a settlement amount. The next National Lok Adalat would be organised on September 9 this year, the communiqué added.
