Panchayat-poll campaign picks up pace in Bordumsa

BORDUMSA: Countering the rumors allegedly initiated by various political camps amidst the heated Panchayat polls campaign here in Bordumsa-Diyun Assembly constituency, Somlung Mossang the local Independent MLA said that irrespective of political parties in the government, it's the local independent MLA who is the overall guardian of the general constituency like Bordumsa to explore ways and means and initiate steps for the overall development of the people and the place.

'The saffron party during their recent poll campaigns in Bordumsa and Diyun was heard frightening a section of electorates not to vote for the Independent as the government at the State and the Center belongs to the BJP; and voting for Independent candidates would land them in trouble while seeking developmental funds," alleged the MLA. He posed, "Had this been a parameter for development, how come several projects have been accomplished in my constituency with the active support and cooperation of the State government."

Mossang was addressing a mammoth party meet at his Balijan-based official residence here on Saturday morning. It was attended by his leaders, workers, and supporters including the contesting candidates for various GPM segments and the ZPM of Bordumsa — KhachangMaio. Appealing to the people to vote for the Independent candidate, KhachangMaio from the Bordumsa Circle and MukeshDeori of the Diyun Segment, the incumbent MLA said that both are capable leaders. "If voted to power, they will definitely serve the people with a secular outlook and boost development in the place. You won't regret voting for KhachangMaio, I guarantee, it's my responsibility to look after your needs and aspirations because an Independent MLA is the ruling party for Bordumsa while the BJP is our Opposition," said the leader often known for calculated and far-sighted diplomacy in Changlang district.

What was noteworthy about the general meeting here was the address of the representatives selected from various communities including the Adivasi, SonowalKachari, Singpho, Nockte, and Tangsa of Bordumsa Circle who unanimously decided to support and vote for the projected Singpho leader KhachangMaio.

"Our Adivasi brethren is determined to push for the independent ZPM candidate KhachangBhai though there is an Adivasi candidate contesting for the ZPM but unfortunately without our mandates," said Chunku Mura — one of the senior-most Adivasi leaders who recently lent his allegiance to the Independent camp led by Mossing. "There won't be any existence of the BJP in Bordumsa after the Independent sweeps this Panchayat Polls with majority," predicted the Adivasi leader who was in the BJP camp earlier.

ZPM candidate KhachanagMaio said, "I see in myself all the communities; I am Nocte, I am Tangsa, I am Adivasi, and I am Chakma, as such I would walk in harmony with the secular outlook and bring in developments without discriminations."

Meanwhile SiketAlaha — the BJP candidate for the coveted ZPM seat from the Bordumsa segment — is also leaving not stones unturned to lock horns with Maio. Supported and fielded by the ruling BJP and being the son of the head GaonBura of Bordumsa Circle — Sikhet Tang Singpho — SikhetAlah is expected to give a tough fight.

At the same time, Chowsweng Gam Singpho is striving hard to reach out to the electorates with the Congress flag, although without any significant support from the upper hierarchy of the INC. "I am fighting the battle single-handedly holding the flag of the INC with the hope that the masses will repose faith in one of the oldest ruling parties of the country," said Singpho.

On the other hand, defying the community's mandate, Umakanta Sewasi — an Adivasi youth has been fielded and supported by a section of far-sighted Nockte people. "I have a solid mandate which would be reflected in the poll outcome," said Sewasi, who is confident of his victory. Eections to the Arunachal's Panchayat and Municipal polls has been slated for December 22.
