ITANAGAR: In view of the outbreak of novel coronavirus in neighbouring China, the Nampong administration in Changlang district of Arunachal Pradesh has temporarily suspended the Pangsau Pass market as a precautionary measure till March 21.
The decision to this effect was taken during a meeting held at Nampong, the last town of the district bordering Myanmar, under the chairmanship of Sub Divisional Officer (SDO) Ibom Tao and attended by the Gaon Burhas (village heads), panchayat members, medical officers among others.
Nampong has close proximity to Myanmar through the Pangsau Pass in the historic Stilwell Road.
Traders from Nampong sell their products at the Pansau Pass market which is held on the 10th, 20th and the 30th days of each month.
Trade and Commerce Director Tokong Pertin informed that it was also decided to temporarily suspend the market at Nampong till March 21, where Myanmarese traders come every Friday to sell their products, .
The meeting also decided to inform the Myanmarese authority at Pangsau Pass to give wide publicity of these decisions to their denizens and to restrict their movement to the Indian side.
Similarly the meeting further decided that all the Gaon Burahs and Panchayat interim committee members of Nampong and Rima Putok would create awareness in their areas to restrict the movement of villagers concerned to the Myanmar side.
