ITANAGAR: Parsuram Kund, a sacred place for pilgrimage in Lohit district of Arunachal Pradesh, is all set to get a major facelift with the Centre sanctioning an amount of Rs 37.8774 crore to develop the site.

This was disclosed by Governor Brigadier (Retired) Dr BD Mishra during a meeting with State Tourism Minister Nakap Nalo and Tourism Secretary Sadhna Deori at Raj Bhawan here.

During the meeting discussion on development of Parsuram Kund was held, an official communiqué informed.

The Governor said that Parasuram Kund is one of the most sacred places for pilgrimage in the country and large numbers of people, including believers and tourists visit the holy site throughout the year.

During Makar Sanskranti, thousands of people take holy dip at the site in Lohit River.

"To make the place convenient for the visitors and at the same to maintain the sanctity, an inclusive development of the Kund was proposed by the State government and Rs. 37.8774 crore has been sanctioned for it by the Centre," the Governor said.

Dr Mishra conveyed his gratitude to the Central government for sanctioning the project.

He said the site, which has immense religious importance would have huge beneficial impact on the socio-economic development of the area and boost the sources of livelihood of the local people.

"With the sanction of the project, there will be improvement of the steps leading to the Kund for the old and elderly pilgrims, better services and safe and suitable accommodation for the visitors," he said adding, other innovative measures for making the trip to the Kund easy and comfortable are included in the project.

Dr Mishra said that the project must be completed at the earliest and no slippage would acceptable in its completion timeframe. The fund provided must on the ground be strictly utilized as planned in letter and spirit.

He suggested that PWD Chief Engineer (Design & Planning) Atop Lego, who has been working on the survey and investigation since day one may be asked to assist the implementation of the project.

The tourism minister assured the governor of his personal monitoring of the project saying that once completed, the project would enhance the tourism sector in the State.

Nalo also thanked the Governor, for vigorously pursuing with the Centre for approval of the project.
