Parking Lot Mooted To Ease Itanagar Traffic Snarl

ITANAGAR: In connection to traffic and parking problems within the Capital Complex, the Itanagar All Arunachal Pradesh Public Transport Federation (AAPPTF) met Capital Complex Deputy Commissioner Vikram Singh Malik and submitted a memorandum demanding immediate construction of a parking slot for commercial public vehicles at Itanagar.

AAPPTF president Dobing Sonam highlighted the traffic problems faced by the people in the Capital Complex and said the organization sensing the seriousness of the situation did its own groundwork to find out the reality of the situation.

The AAPPTF pointed out that its federal units such as auto rickshaws, tempos, trekkers, Tata mobiles, bus associations, etc., have been demanding parking place as well as pick-up and drop points at various places on the National Highway stretch between Itanagar and Naharlagun to ease the menace of traffic jams.

Sonam said that there is an immediate need for a parking place for commercial public transports near the Clock Tower at Ganga Market. He said the area must be developed for parking space by dismantling the Clock Tower as there are more than 1,000 commercial vehicles plying in the area and due to non-availability of parking place, the commercial vehicles have no other alternative but to park near the road.

He apprised the DC that the issue was raised earlier with but due to the frequent transfers of the DCs, till date there is has been no positive outcome.

During the meeting, Sonam also requested the DC to finalize or regulate the private commercial vehicle rate within one month. Further, he also requested the DC for strict action against improper number plate users and also the seller or user of film paper (black paper). Malik assured that he will discuss the issues with his officers and he also assured to look into the rates revision of autos, tempos, trackers, etc.
