Itanagar: Centurion town Pasighat, the headquarters of East Siang district in Arunachal Pradesh, has earned the distinction of the second town in the state to be open defecation free (ODF) after Tawang. The Pasighat Municipal Council (PMC) has declared the town as open defecation free, official sources informed here on Tuesday.

Deputy Commissioner Dr Kinny Singh, who is also the administrator of PMC, while expressing her happiness over the achievement, said that it was a herculean task to achieve after long exercise as a part of the Swachch Bharat Abhiyan campaign (SBM). The DC added that eradicating open defecation is part of the SBM, which aims to make India open defecation free by October 2019. Extending her gratitude to the council and all the stakeholders of the town for strengthening the hands of the urban body, Singh assured that there would be no slackness in hygiene and cleanliness once the tag has been awarded. It is pertinent to mention here that Pasighat has also be chosen along with Itanagar under the Smart City project of the Centre.
