Guwahati: The Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh Pema Khandu ushered in his 41st birthday with warm wishes and prayers from Prime Minister Narendra Modi who on Friday lauded Khandu for his 'path-breaking' work to empower the youth of Arunachal Pradesh and taking the initiative to transform the frontier state.
"Birthday wishes to the hardworking Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh, Pema Khandu Ji. He is doing path-breaking work to transform Arunachal Pradesh and empower the youth of the State. May Almighty bless him with long and healthy life in service of the people", Mr. Modi wrote on Twitter.
Similarly, Assam's Chief Minister Sonowal, lavishing praise on Khandu his 'friend' and admired his leadership capacities. He took to Twitter as well, wishing Khandu for his birthday.
It is to be noted that Pema Khandu is the youngest serving Chief Minister of India. He was sworn into office at 37 years old in July of 2016. A member of the Bharatiya Janata Party, Khandu is known for undertaking many initiatives, especially for the youth. He has previously served as Minister of Tourism, Urban Development, and Water Resources in the Congress-led Nabam Tuki government.
More recently, he has hailed the Centre's decision to set up a National Recruitment Agency (NRA) that will oversee an online Common Eligibility Test for choosing candidates for a greater number of central government jobs. Khandu called the decision a "landmark" one and said that it will ensure transparency and equal opportunities for all.
He is on friendly terms with the CM of Assam as well, mirroring his views on the contentious Citizenship Amendment Bill. In a statement, Khandu said that the Bill-turned-Act was being "misinterpreted" by people with vested interests and that the Bill will help to rebuild balanced demography of the region.
In his tweet, Assam CM Sonowal had high praise for the work that CM Khandu has done. He wished him for his birthday and complimented Khandu's ability and leadership qualities. He wished him success and new accomplishments in the future governance of the State.
Sonowal tweeted, "Heartiest birthday greetings to my friend and the dynamic Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh Shri @PemaKhanduBJP Ji. May your able leadership propel the state to greater heights of prosperity."
