ITANAGAR: Executive Engineer (PHED), Itanagar Division Tadar Mangku today informed that the people of Itanagar Capital Complex (ICC) may face a week long water scarcity as the main water supply pipeline at Poma intake point has been damaged due to week long torrential rainfall causing soil erosion.

Mangku said that the main water supply pipeline of 450mm, supplying drinking water to ICC was dislodged today morning due to soil erosion at Rillo-Moin village.

"The pipeline supplied 11 Millions of Liters per Day (MLD) to the people in Itanagar Township. Due to the damage, major parts of the town will be affected and the department may not be able to provide water as usual like the other days," he said.

He said that men and machineries have already been deployed for early restoration. However, it will take a minimum of seven days, depending on the weather condition.

"As of now, 20 workers and linemen along with 4 junior engineers and assistant engineers are supervising the restoration work. Meanwhile, the department is planning to provide water to every major affected household by tankers," he said, adding that the stored water will be enough for the public usage for the next day (Thursday).

Appealing to the public to be patient, Mangku also requested them to make use of rain water for domestic usage till the damage is restored.

He also said that few areas of ICC may receive water supply from Senkiview Water Treatment Plant with minimum speed and volume of water for emergency purposes.
