Ponung Doming becomes the first Woman Lt Colonel from Arunachal Pradesh

New Delhi: Ponung Doming becomes the first woman from the north-eastern state of Arunachal Pradesh to hold the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval congratulated on her achievement on twitter and called her an empowered woman.

She was promoted from the post of Army Major on Monday, 23 September.

Meanwhile, Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu took to Twitter to share the “proud moment.”

Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu also took to Twitter to congratulate her and claimed that Doming is the first woman Lieutenant Colonel from the state indeed.

Notably, Doming received her training from the Officers’ Training Academy, Chennai, under the Indian Army in 2008. In September 2008, she joined the army as a Lieutenant and after four years she was elevated as a Major.

Furthermore, the army has 3.80 percent of women officers, the navy has six percent and the air force has the highest 13 percent, said the Centre in the reply to the Lok Sabha in December 2018.
