ROING: The celebration of Poshan Pakhwada with the theme 'Integration of traditional and modern practices for healthy India' concluded on Monday with a programme for Anganwadi workers and helpers of the Lower Dibang Valley district at the VKV Auditorium near here.

The programme was attended by 186 participants and graced by Deputy Commissioner Soumya Saurabh, DMO Dr Tajing Taki, DDSE D Tayeng, DD (ICDS) GA Perying, CDPOs and others.

DC Soumya Saurabh, speaking on the occasion, laid stress on the important role played by the Anganwadi workers and helpers in providing a child a healthy future for their development. "Take the pledge to shoulder your responsibilities with dedication and sincerity for the better future of the children under your care," she advised them.

She enjoined the Anganwadi workers and helpers to run the centres for at least 3 hours daily and teach the children. Pre-primary education has to be provided in the Anganwadi centres before the children are enrolled in the formal schooling system, she said.

Dr Tajing Taki briefed the gathering on the objectives of the Poshan Abhiyan being to address the concern of malnutrition, stunting, anaemia, low birth weight and other nutrition-related problems with an aim to raise awareness to improve the nutritional index and the signs and symptoms to look out for in children with malnutrition and nutrient deficiency aged up to 6 years attending the Anganwadi centres.

GA Perying informed about the Poshan Abhiyan and the programmes undertaken in a convergence mode with departments of Health, Education, PHED and others. CDPO Ijum Doye Bui gave a presentation on the activities conducted during the Poshan Pakhwada fortnight.

Anganwadi workers and helpers also had an opportunity to express their views and place their grievances and demands for timely disbursement of monthly honorarium, raise in honorarium and a suggestion to make certificate of learning from Anganwadi centres mandatory on joining the formal schooling system.
