Preservation of indigenous culture advocated in Itanagar

ITANAGAR: The chiefs of villages in Tirap district have called out in one voice for preservation of the indigenous culture and traditions.

The Tirap District Chiefs Council (TDCC) observed its 6th formation day recently with the primary objective of preserving, protecting and promoting the rich and varied cultural heritage of the people of the district, an official report informed on Tuesday. “The age-old institution of chieftain system in the district is a democratic institution that has successfully governed village administration through the ages. The chiefs have been mandated to address all the social problems of the people through TDCC,” the report said. TDCC general secretary Witwang Lowang read out the progress report of the council, and chairman K Lowang thanked the Chief Minister for his contribution and his commitment to construct the TDCC office in Khonsa.
