ITANAGAR: Amid the Hijab row across the country, the state of Arunachal Pradesh has come up with new development in the sector of school uniform as it has allowed traditional dress for students on every Monday apart from the mandatory school uniform on other days.

The private schools in Arunachal Pradesh took the decision to allow the students to wear traditional outfits on one day of the week i.e. on Monday and it is made mandatory as per APPSCWA.

The decision has been taken with the objective of conceptualizing and promoting the rich traditional tribal attires.

A meeting was held on Sunday 6 February among the representatives from more than 180 educational institutions in the state along with APPSCWA (Arunachal Pradesh Private Schools and Children Welfare Association) which undertook the decision of allowing traditional dress in schools.

The VP of Arunachal Pradesh Private Schools and Children Welfare Association, Trah Jhony said that as per the discussion in the Sunday meeting, a resolution was adopted for making it mandatory for students to wear the traditional outfit at school on the first day of the week.

The vice president of the association further stated that most of the parents of the school students gave suggestions about the matter and accordingly decision has been taken.

He also informed that the students from now onwards will get the freedom to wear their own traditional dress irrespective of communities.

Jhony asserted that a Galo student can wear a Galo dress, a student from the Nyishi community can wear Nyishi attire, Singhpho students can wear their Singhpho outfit and similarly, a non-tribal student can wear the traditional dress that belongs to their tradition.

The president of the association, Yowa Bullet informed though students can wear their traditional dresses but they will not be permitted to wear accessories like various ornaments or dao called a machete.

Wearing accessories might to harmful for other students in the school added the APPSCWA president.
