ITANAGAR: The Arunachal Pradesh State Council for Technical Education (APSCTE) on Monday approved the proposal for registration of the council with the National Council for Vocational Education and Training (NCVET) as an assessment and awarding body for skill certification in the state. The decision was taken in the council’s eighth general body meeting here under the chairmanship of state Education Minister Taba Tedir. The council also approved granting equivalent status to diploma holders with class XII students for the purpose of higher education and for employment where the entry-level qualification is class XII, officials said. The notification would be notified after formal approval from the state government, the officials said.

Addressing the meeting, Tedir said that technical education plays a vital role in the development of the country by creating skilled manpower, enhancing industrial productivity, and improving the quality of life and ease of living. “The state government, with its limited resources, is trying to achieve improvements in the status of access, equity, and parity in technical education, along with the quality and introduction of a plethora of reforms in line with the new education policy 2020,” the minister added. Earlier, Higher and Technical Education Director Alik Jongkey informed that APSCTE is mandated to advise the government on various matters related to technical education in the state, to conduct academics, examinations, administration, and faculty training, besides conducting counselling for the nomination of students in various diploma and degree technical and professional courses. “APSCTE is striving judiciously to upgrade curricula in line with today’s requirements and equip students with the latest know-how for their better employability,” Jongkey added.
