ITANAGAR: Arunachal Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein on Thursday exhorted the indigenous faith believers of the state to zealously protect and promote tribal language and culture.

Attending the Indigenous Faith Day celebration at Namsai, Mein said that language and culture are the identities of the tribal people which should be promoted and protected.

"We must strive to revive and promote our folk songs and indigenous music and must preserve them either in written documents or in audio-visual format too," he said.

Stating that a cultural revolution is going on to keep alive indigenous cultures and traditions in the state, the deputy chief minister added that the State government would continue to support the Indigenous Faith and Cultural Society of Arunachal Pradesh (IFCSAP) in their endeavours for the preservation and promotion of the rich culture & traditions. Informing that an ordination hall has been dedicated at the Golden Pagoda in Namsai on Wednesday, Mein said that it is an important part of Buddhist traditions to keep alive the Sangha.

He informed me that without an ordination hall, Buddhist temples are incomplete as new monks need to be ordained. On the occasion, identity cards were issued by the department of Indigenous Affairs to the priests and a calendar by IFCSAP was also released.
