KANUBARI (CHANGLANG): Thousands of people from all walks of life joined a protest rally demanding that the 'Arunachal Pradesh Forest Corporation Limited' (APFCL) must provide all the benefits to the land owners of Mopa Tea Estate as assured in an agreement signed in the year 1992.

The rally on January 25 was jointly organized by the 'Longhua, Mopakhat and Sangsatham United Society' (LMSUS), district students organization and the villagers from Dasatong village at Mopa Tea Estate here.

Speaking to the reporters, LMSUS convener ManlemJamikham informed that an agreement was earlier signed between the APCFL and the villagers for the 92 acres of land but the APCFL is yet to address the issue. He also said that the villagers have served a week's deadline to the APFCL to resolve the demands.

"Until we are provided a solution, the villagers will continue to protest," he said, adding, "The villagers want a meeting between both the parties for resolving the issue amicably within seven days." Jamikham also said that the Mopa Tea Estate will remain closed until arbitration by the APFCL.

"We have served one-week ultimatum to the Managing Director (MD) of APFCL to fulfil the demands of the villagers," he said, adding, "The agreement was signed in 1992 but the villagers are yet to receive their share of profit in tea production by the APFCL."
