ITANAGAR: Arunachal Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein, who also holds the Power & Hydropower portfolio, has reaffirmed the state government's commitment to developing small hydropower projects. During a meeting with small hydropower project developers here on Saturday, Mein assured full government support in addressing challenges and resolving local issues.
However, he urged developers to accelerate their work and ensure timely commissioning of projects, an official communiqué informed here on Sunday.
Hydropower commissioner Sonam Chombay highlighted that 35 operational small hydropower projects have a combined allocated capacity of 570.75 MW, attracting an estimated investment of Rs 7,000 crore. These projects are expected to generate employment for 7,500 local youths. Once completed, they will contribute Rs 58.25 crore per year in revenue through free power.
Recognizing efficiency in project execution, Mein felicitated two developers for timely completion of their projects-Devi Energies Pvt Ltd from Andhra Pradesh for the 24 MW Dikshi HEP in West Kameng district and Raajratna Energy Holdings Pvt Ltd from Telangana for the 7.5 MW Khangtang HEP in Tawang.
The meeting was attended by Power Secretary RK Sharma, Additional PCCF D Dalai, Hydropower Chief Engineer Atek Miyu, T&D Chief Engineer TK Tara, LM Director Mamta Riba, and representatives from 19 power development firms.
