ITANAGAR: Normal life was thrown out of gear following incessant rain since the past couple of days that has also triggered landslides and flood-like situations in several districts of Arunachal Pradesh.

Massive landslides have been reported in many parts of the state capital since Wednesday triggered by continuous downpour in the last few days, a senior government official informed on Thursday.

After inspecting most of the places on Thursday, Itanagar EAC Neelam Teji informed that massive mud slips at Dokum Colony in Chimpu area on the way to Sange Lhaden Sports Academy here, damaged few local houses. However, the debris were subsequently cleared. The already damaged road of Niti Vihar area sustained more damages, he said.

PWD Assistant Engineer Bhupen Tadar informed that a large stretch of the Papu-Itanagar Road via Jullang has been damaged along with various chainages and a culvert near the Nyishi Elite Society (NES) secretariat at Richi, was completely washed away for which the road has been closed for traffic, including pedestrian.

State BJP president BR Wahge — who is also a MLA— along with Itanagar legislator Techi Kaso, PWD capital Division-B Executive Engineer Tarh Gongkap along with local residents visited the spot to take stock of the situation on Thursday morning.

Kaso directed the Executive Engineer to initiate the process at the earliest for permanent restoration of the road while appealing the people to take Jullang-Chimpu road till restoration of the road.

Teji further informed that a wide stretch of road from Dera Natug Government College Gate to Upper Vivek Vihar here, was damaged by landslide while the road from Hilltop Colony to IRBn Colony completely blocked due to massive landslides.
