Itanagar: The higher education department of the union Human Resource Development ministry has appointed Proffessor Saket Kushwaha of Banaras Hindu University (BHU) as the new vice chancellor (VC) of Rajiv Gandhi University at Rono Hills, near here.

The ministry in an order issued on Monday appointed professor Kushwaha as the VC of the state’s lone central varsity for a period of five years. The university was running without a vice chancellor for several months with the students of the varsity along with other students’ bodies of the state led by All Arunachal Pradesh Students Union (AAPSU) demanding the state government to pursue the Centre for appointment of a regular VC for the higher institution of learning.

Meanwhile the AAPSU has welcomed the decision and expressed gratitude to Chief Minister Pema Khandu for taking prompt action in apprising the HRD ministry of the matter of appointing a VC at the university.

“The appointment of the new VC, who is an experienced and brilliant academician, would usher in a new era of academic excellence in the lone institute of higher education of the state,” the AAPSU said.

It congratulated the RGU family, including the university’s student union and the scholars’ forum, over the fruitful development.
