ITANAGAR: The Rajiv Gandhi University (RGU) is all set to start new courses from the 2020-21 academic session as a part of the vision plan of the central varsity.

The university is planning and vying for introducing new and relevant courses and accordingly recently roped in a huge total of 46 faculty positions for starting departments of Agronomy & Farm Management, Soil Science & Agricultural Chemistry, Microbiology & Plant Pathology, Animal Husbandry, Entomology & Agricultural Zoology, Food Technology, Statistics and Law.

To add to its flourishing colours, the approval for starting courses in Sports Anthropometry, Sports Biochemistry, Sports Biomechanics & Performance Analysis, Sports Nutrition and Sports Physiology under faculty of Sports Science & Sports Medicine from the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports under the scheme of National Centre of Sports Sciences and Research (NCSSR) has brought this remotely located university into the limelight, Joint Registrar Dr David Pertin informed.

However, the faculty positions at the ratio of 1:2:4 for professors, associate professors and assistant professors are being pursued from the relevant agencies.

"Bagging the Centre of Excellence on Sports Science Education & Research is a big score for RGU as this elite establishment on sports education and research will be the first of its kind in the entire northeast India," Dr Pertin pointed out.

In this regard, the university has already constituted a registrar led eight member team to execute the establishment and soon the report on the start of the new courses in sports would be tabled in the academic council meeting for academic clearance, he said.
