ITANAGAR: The Rajiv Gandhi University Students' Union (RGUSU) has said that the University authorities and the Arunachal Pradesh government should implement a promotional pattern for the students of terminal semester and final year along with intermediate semesters.

The Union, in a representation to the University Vice Chancellor, also appealed to continue the entrance examination — to select students for the new session — only when normalcy returns or through the online mode. It further suggested that 50% weightage be awarded for those students with backlog in the fifth semester of UG and the third semester of PG courses from their intermediate semester.

Addressing a press conference at the Press Club here on SaRGUSUturday, RGUSU president Dopum Sonam said that the Union opposed the varsity authority's decision to conduct examinations for the terminal semester and final-year students in August and September without any confirmation on the date, during the 28th meeting of the Academic Council (Special).

"The Union opposes the decision of conducting examinations for the final-year students to which a representation has been submitted to the Vice-Chancellor and a copy to the Governor of state, Education Minister and the apex students' body — AAPSU," Sonam said.

The university should conduct special examinations for those students who want to improve their marks," he suggested.

Sonam further said that it is quite impossible to conduct examination during the COVID-19 pandemic; and students are not in position to risk their lives just for the sake of appearing in examinations.

When most of the universities and colleges across the globe have decided to postpone examinations for all semesters during this period of COVID-19 pandemic, why not RGU?' he posed, adding, "We cannot ignore the fact that every student needs a fresh or new environment for the revival of interest in the academic study."
