ITANAGAR: The Arunachal Pradesh Literary Society (APLS) has announced that the Luminous Lummer Dai Literary Award for the year 2025 will be conferred on noted writers Ramchandra Chutia and Dr Ashok Kumar Pandey in recognition of their significant contributions to literature.
The award ceremony is scheduled to take place on June 1 at Lummer Dai Bhawan in Assam’s Tezpur, to mark the 85th birth anniversary of Lummer Dai, the pioneer of modern literature in Arunachal Pradesh.
The recipients were selected by a committee comprising chairman H. Rokom Bado and members Banta Natung and Gumpu Nguso.
Ramchandra Chutia, born in 1952 in Dhakuakhana, Assam, is a prolific author with 29 published works to his credit. His writings span across genres, including poetry, novels, short stories, travelogues, essays, and memoirs, written in both Assamese and English. Eight of his books focus on the socio-anthropological aspects of various tribes in Arunachal Pradesh.
Chutia began his career in the state as a primary school teacher in Sartam village under Tali circle in 1971 and retired in 2010 as the principal of Government Higher Secondary School, Doimukh, after four decades of service in the education sector.
Dr Ashok Kumar Pandey, associate professor in the department of commerce at Dera Natung Government College here, has authored 11 books. Born in 1967 in Uttar Pradesh, he moved to Arunachal Pradesh in 1992 and has since contributed to the state’s literary and academic fields.
His creative works include poetry, short stories, and drama, while five of his academic books have been widely appreciated in academic circles.
