ITANAGAR: Union Minister of State for Jal Shakti and Social justice Ratan Lal Kataria has assured Arunachal that the Centre will frame a proper and feasible water management policy for the State with full support and fund provision for flood-protection measures as well as the annual monsoon woes in the State.

Addressing a function at Pasighat, the headquarters of East Siang district, to mark the 'Brahmaputra Aamantran Abhiyan' on Wednesday, the Union Minister said that under the Centre's 'Jal Jeevan Mission' and 'Har Ghar Nal Yojana', the Central government is planning to provide water supply to every household of the country by 2024.

Stating that rivers played a significant role in the growth of human civilization, the Minister called upon the people to adopt the concept of 'Living with the river' for sustainable living and protecting the ecosystem.

"Rejuvenation and revival of our rivers and protection of our ecosystem besides maintaining the water quality is the need of the hour," said Kataria.

He also said that the 'Brahmaputra Aamantran Abhiyan' would go a long way in formulation of the 'Water Rejuvenation Policy'.

The Union Minister also highlighted the various welfare measures like scholarship for ST/SC students, programme to fight drug abuse and welfare measures for senior citizens under the Ministry of Social Justice.

He also felicitated winners of various competitions organized as part of the 'Brahmaputra Aamantran Abhiyan' to spread awareness.

Earlier, MLAs Lombo Tayeng, Ninong Ering and Kaling Moyong, who were also present on the occasion, apprised the Minister about the annual monsoon woes caused by the mighty Siang on an unprecedented scale every monsoon.

Tributaries like Sibo Korong and Remi also cause floods every monsoon, they said and submitted memorandums to the Minister.
