Itanagar: The All Papum Poma Students’ Union (APPSU) has demanded the state government to rename the law college at Jote near here, after former minister T C Teli besides, providing special’ reservation of seats for students of the locality and direct recruitment of group ‘C’ & ‘D’ posts to the land donors. The union has submitted a three-point memorandum to the education minister.

While welcoming the state government’s decision that the college would start functioning from this academic session, the APPSU said in its memorandum that the villagers have donated land free of cost in hope of getting some special reservation (seats) for the students of the locality.

But the notification issued by Directorate of Higher & Technical Education on June 20 this year, for conduction of Law Entrance Test (LET) deeply saddened the sentiments of the locals as there was no mention of any special seats reservation for them.

The union urged upon the minister for seat reservation for the students of the locality from the current session. Regarding renaming of the college as TC Teli Govt Law College, the union said the former minister and social worker of the area represented the Doimukh constituency twice in the assembly and worked for all round development of the area.

“His contribution for the area development should be given due recognisation by renaming the college after his name,” it added.

Further, APPSU demanded for direct recruitment of C & D grade jobs to the land donors as ‘compensation’, while stating that the entire land for the college was donated free of cost.
