Republic Day: Arunachal Tableau to Showcase Wancho's Wooden Log Drum & Chakzam Bridge

ITANAGAR: With the theme 'East meets West', Arunachal Pradesh will proudly march in the Republic day tableau parade 2021.

This time, Wancho's wooden log drum 'Kham' and the Chakzam Bridge at Tawang will be on display.

This final selection was done by the Ministry of Defence, after a series of meetings.

Meanwhile, the Assam tableau will showcase the tea garden of the state. The theme of the tableau of Assam is 'Assam tea- the backbone of India's economy.'

It has been cleared by the Union Ministry of Defence for presentation on January 26, the Republic Day parade in Delhi. The tableau will showcase Assam's tea garden, tea workers' culture and other related aspects of the tea industry.

The design for the tableau will be finalised on January 9, by a firm named, Image Creations. The information is shared by Preetom Saikia, the Commissioner and Secretary of Cultural Affairs Department.

Saikia said that due to the COVID-19 protocols, the number of participants in the tableau will be restricted. The idea behind this year's tableau is to depict a tea garden and the activities associated with it, which also includes the cultural side such as the 'jhumoor' dance.

The expert committee, who is supervising the tableau preparation, reviewed the model on Monday and suggested a few modifications. Assam government has also deputed officials in Delhi, to look after the preparations there.

In last year's Republic Day parade, Assam grabbed the limelight as it won its debut Republic Day award.

The Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh gave away the Best Tableaux award to Assam last year. It was followed by Odisha and Uttar Pradesh, both in the second position.

On the other hand, the West Bengal government will showcase its popular 'Sabooj Sathi' scheme in its tableau.

The decision to have 'Sabooj Sathi' as the tableaux theme for the 2021 Republic Day parade was taken to show the entire nation the scheme which has earned the state global accolades after its 'Kanyashree' project, the official said.

"Sabooj Sathi has been awarded by the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) and has also been acclaimed around the globe. That is the reason we have taken the decision to showcase it to the entire world as our tableaux during the Republic Day parade," the officials told PTI.
