ITANAGAR: Attending the Recreational Entertainment Information & Literary Activity (REILA)-2019 of the Rajiv Gandhi Government Polytechnic (RGGP) here on Tuesday, the state Environment & Forest Minister Nabam Rebia assured to support for the upgrading of the institute to a full-fledged Engineering Degree College.

Addressing the students on the annual celebration (REILA) Rebia stressed that when we can have our own Tomo Riba Institute of Health & Medical Science (TRIHMS) why can’t we have our own Degree College.

He said this with reference to the memorandum submitted by the college. He further assured to take the matter to the concern department and talk with the chief minister of the state. “The upgrading of the institute to a Degree College is need of the hour and I will make it sure that in days to come we have our own Degree Collage,” he said.

The other submission in the memorandum were checking illegal encroachment, construction of boundary wall, adding new streams like Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science and Travel & Tourism, Indoor Stadium to which the minister assured to put up to the concerned department.

Meanwhile, the principal of the RGGP Dr. AK Tripathy said that the demands submitted in the memorandum is our long term demands as the institute is sixteen years old and it’s correct time for up gradation.

He said upgrading of the institute in Degree College will facilitate lateral entry, minimize futile expenditure of the parents who sent their children out of the state for the same course. “We have all the basic equipment, faculty and infrastructure in the institute that can render quality education as of other institute from south and other States,” he added.

Speaking on the problems faced due to poor compound wall of the institute, Tripathy said that almost half of the compound wall has been damaged due to which there is illegal encroachment and the nearby settled locals use it as a transit route.

“I would also request the state government to provide additional equipment grant to the institute so that we can go ahead with building a better future for the students,” he added.
